Your tree or mine?
I saw this story in the local paper and nearly spit my drink out (yes it was that funny to me). It seems that the left (Obama) has no problem with the good Rev's denuciations of this country and roughly half it's people, yet he is very quick to 'persuade' a woman who has pledged to vote for him to step down because she had the nerve (!!!!) to tell kids to quit acting like monkeys.

Here's the headline on a story in the Chicago Sun-Times: "Suburban Obama delegate quits over 'divisive' remark." Here's the subhead: "Says when she called black kids 'monkeys,' she was asking them to get out of tree."

Being a newspaperman of many years, I know a thing or two about headlines. They are supposed to accurately convey the essence of the story. Now, any reasonable person would have a problem with a woman, whether an Obama delegate or not, calling little black children monkeys. If she did. Check out what she really said (emphasis added):

Right Angles

Click over and see what the rest of the story entails. It's a horror piece of PC'ness in a poor Chicago world.

Ouch

You need to go over to Rachel's and read this story:

So guess what Al Sharpton and the NAACP are doing? Protesting in front of the State Attorney's Office's, in support of the rapists. They say it's "unfair" that these animals are being held without bail.

This is because some white kids in a neighboring city were recently charged with gang-raping two drunk female friends, and were released on bail. Which means that RACISM is in play!

Sharpton said the black teens remain jailed and the white teens are free on bond, despite them committing the "same act."

"To have different reactions to the same set of circumstances is a crime in itself," Sharpton said.

The real crime here is that a man who doesn't understand the meaning of simple English words is a wealthy preacher who's regularly featured on news programs as a "black activist".

Rachel Lucas

After you read it and let it sink in, remember this is a man who wants the world to follow him to hell.

Obama isn't (w)right
Ok, I've read the speech (still havn't listened to it, but I will) and basically Obama blames everything on white people again.

He starts out good and then turns the corner and outs his (white) grandmother for being a closet-racist and somehow that makes the good Rev. ok. Every argument Obama puts out there he ties into the past and somehow tries to make it justifiable for a church to espouse the sentiments that this one did.

He claims that he's sure that everyone disagreed with their pastor over the years (nevermind that not everyone's pastor says the same bullshit that this one does) and somehow tries to deflect criticism from himself to everyone listening to him.

This man isn't in the mold of Sharpton or Jackson; he's the updated version of them.

Racism
Barack Obama recently tried to distance himself from his pastor because of his pastor's views about America and white people.

Obama has been a member of his church for 20 odd years, was married by the man, had his kids baptized by the man and just now finds out that the man is crazy? Seems a bit pat to me no? Obama has to believe in what the man does if he stays there; it's not like you'll keep going to the same hate-monger if you aren't a hate-monger yourself.

I've read quite a few good posts at various blogs about this and at almost all of them, some moonbat will be in the comments basically giving Obama a pass because he 'denounced' the preacher man. Of couse when the media FINALLY notices that you are using an anti-American, racist, anti-semitic, hate-mongering idiot as a spiritual advisor; you have to do something to keep your 'Audacity of Hope' going.

This is simply the latest large misstep that Obama has had since he took momentum from the Hildabeast on Super Tuesday. From wanting to bomb Pakistan, the pin, the hand not on heart to his wife's (un)pride in her country; nothing in the man has even hinted that he would be capable of leading this country he loathes so much.

I detest Hilary but at least I believe she would be better for the country than this walking time-bomb. (note: I will vote for McCain and hope he destroys whomever the Dems put out there, but if one of them would happen to win, I think Obama would ruin this country much worse than Hilary could even dream of).

PGA
Tiger roared through the field at Torrey Pines in what will have to be termed 'scary' ease by his would-be competitors.
LA JOLLA, Calif. -- Unlike the Southern California weather prognosticators, Tiger Woods was on target all week at the Buick Invitational.

The doom and gloom predictions had Torrey Pines a saturated mess and the PGA Tour event's conclusion in doubt. But overnight rain turned out to be a mere nuisance, and although Woods did not stroll as much as slosh around the course Sunday, it was an easy victory, nonetheless.

An eight-shot lead at the start of the final round quickly turned into 11 before he settled for a final margin of eight, a result that appeared inevitable as early as Friday. The weekend left no suspense -- only worry about whether the storms that have been in the forecast every day would spoil an otherwise glorious day for Woods.

With a fourth straight victory at the Buick and third in a row on the PGA Tour dating to last year, all the offseason chatter about this having the potential to be a monster year for Woods takes on more validity.

After the opening day where he was in 3rd place, Tiger pretty much decided he was going to win and went out and did it. But that is how Tiger plays. He is (or will be) the best player to ever play the game of Golf.

That is what Tiger should be doing, winning golf tournaments. While everyone at ESPN cries and moans because he doesn't feel like they do on social issues (a woman was actually suspended and had to apologize because she said the word lynch); Tiger plays golf.
Woods also won his first tournament of the year after his name was at the center of controversy for three weeks after remarks by Golf Channel anchor Kelly Tilghman that got her suspended and had commentators calling for him to take more of a stand on social issues.
ESPN
Some at ESPN (on air) were calling the use of the word lynch (and a subsequent front page on Golf mag) equivalent to using terms about the holocaust to Jews. Of course, the 3400 or so black people (and roughly 1300 whites) that were lynched in the U.S. [source] are equal to the 6 million Jews that perished in WWII... keep telling yourself that.

The best and easiest way to defeat the 'rampant' racist stereotypes that seem to inhabit the minds of the TV world is by simply stop thinking the racist, stereotype thoughts that they seem to think everytime anything is said on the air. Much like Bill Clinton being talked about for using the term 'fairy tale' and it being racist (please, where in the world did that come from), racial issues would go further toward obscurity if thick-skin were more rampant.

MLK Day
Have to agree with the sentiments in this story, but not in the way the speaker would want me to.
DALLAS, Jan. 21 (UPI) -- A Dallas minister who marched with civil rights leader the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., said Monday's birthday observance holiday is an insult to his legacy.

The Rev. Peter Johnson, 62, director of the Texas operations for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, told The Dallas Morning News the holiday should be on April 4, the anniversary of the date King was assassinated.

"We have ignored the essence of his life and the horror of his death," said Johnson. "We've allowed white America to escape the guilt of his assassination and we've allowed black America to drift back into a coma."
UPI

I agree that the holiday is a waste; it is a waste to have a holiday celebrating one man when we don't celebrate any other 'single' person. The two greatest presidents in history have to share a day and MLK gets his on.

MLK marched against racism and for equality, something the good Rev. Johnson seems to have not achieved, his talk of 'white' and 'black' America should be a hint to all those that would follow him that the good preacher isn't into all this equality talk. 'White' America didn't kill MLK, I believe he was killed by One (1) American who happened to be a white person.

Racists are the people that seem to look for race in everything. Regardless of how 'tolerant' you are, you will never convince me that because of history, any class or group of people deserve preferred status.

Illegal Immigration Control = Racist?

Kos: Is Rahm Emanuel A Racist?

Yep! Just one big happy political party destined to run the table over there. With things in Iraq getting better, it's more difficult to bash Bush. Maybe they've resorted to eating their own. As regards the Netroots greater influence, I've yet to see convincing evidence that most of America responds to the type of negative emotions associated with so much of their posturing.[link]

I'll let you go over to Dan's place and read the quote (and of course no linky to Kos)

Racism?
From MVRWC comes this gem:

Last week, Israeli MK Yossi Beilin introduced a bill into the Knesset calling for the expulsion of all Jews from Hebron. But, before the vote, MK Arieh Eldad announced he had prepared an identical bill… with one slight but important difference.

Mk Eldad exchanged the words “Jewish Community of Hebron” for the words “Hebron Palestinians.” Otherwise, the bill was exactly the same. Beilin’s bill called to expel the the Jews of Hebron and Eldad’s bill called to expel the Palestinians of Hebron.

and… oh! the outrage of the left! He called for the expulsion of Palestinians!?! Oh! Voices were raised, cries of racism rang out, to which, I have been told, MK Eldad replied, “What about you?”

Indeed. Expel the Jews, that’s okay, but expel the Palestinians, that’s racist. Why? Why is it racist to expel the Palestinians and not racist to expel the Jews?

Beilin’s bill to expel the Jews from Hebron was defeated 47 to 11. Eldad’s bill was not put to vote.

It's amazing what the left (no matter where they are) will decry while accepting anything that displaces the Jews.

Racism goes both ways?
Federal judge rules in favor of Noxubee County white voters

File photo/The Clarion-Ledger
Noxubee County Democratic Executive Committee Chairman Ike Brown talks outside the Federal Courthouse in Jackson in this file photo.
The voting rights of white voters in majority black Noxubee County were violated, according to a ruling handed down today.

The Justice Department had alleged the Noxubee County Democratic Party, its chairman Ike Brown and the county Election Commission practiced racial discrimination against white voters and candidates.

The attorneys for Democratic Executive Committee and Brown have said the government failed to prove there exists a procedure or structure that denies equal opportunity to white Noxubee County voters .
The Justice Department has called the situation in Noxubee County "the most extreme case of racial exclusion seen by the (department's) Voting Section in decades."

A two-week trial was held in January before Judge Tom Lee in U.S. District Court in Jackson. The trial centered primarily on voting during the 2003 Democratic party primary election and runoff.(link)

As most of you know, I am against ANY discrimination, yet most of the people to my left feel that there cannot be discrimination unless a minority is on the wrong end of the charge. Racism is the same way (in that it is bad either way and that hardly anyone thinks it can go both ways). It is wrong to purposefully discriminate ANYONE based on their race; just as it should be considered wrong to 'hate' them or talk bad about them just because of their race, NO MATTER which race they happen to be.

It is for this reason that I vehemently oppose Affirmative Action. How is it possible that people feel justified in discriminating against someone (anyone) to 'make-up' for past discrimination? This kind of thinking escapes me and for that I'm very glad.

Love me or hate me, disagree to your heart's content, but don't try to tell me that wrong is right because the wronged party is not a minority.

Note: I got home in time this morning to make it to the SL Blogpower awards, but... it hasn't rained at my house in about a month, this morning, it stormed until past 11am (and I had to goto bed) and was again raining when i got up (although not much this evening). That means that with my satellite connection, I couldn't get online at all this morning, sorry guys/gals. Reactions to the ceremony here: ThunderDragon; Sicily Scene; Shades of Grey; Crushed By Ingsoc; those are the only ones with updates AFTER the ceremony so far.

Racism
Racism seems to be the big buzz word lately. I'm not really going to talk about the Imus episode (which, unless nappy-head is a new euphemism for black, wasn't racist; but certainly ho's was sexist).

I'm talking more 'institutional' racism here. ESPN's biggest crusade is about hiring practices (in all sports) and the minority roles thereof. Recently they also deplored the declining numbers of blacks playing baseball.

They gave a stat: 1970's the NFL roster was roughly 30% black, today it is 66% black. This particular minority makes up about 11% of the general population (lower than hispanics now I believe) but makes up 2/3 of the NFL rosters. Does ESPN have a crusade for this? Of course not. When asked, ESPN (and generally anyone that is on this crusade) will tell you that the numbers are that high because the best players get to play. Regardless of race. I totally agree, but why is it that the best players get to play, but the best coaches don't get to coach?

Granted, there are people (and will always be) that are racist and will not look at hiring a minority (in this case, black person; ESPN doesn't really harp about the other minorities much) and that is plain wrong. But if your team just fired it's coach and you KNOW the guy you want (proven winner, hall of famer, whatever) then why should you not hire that guy? If he's not someone that ESPN can talk good about and up it's 'minority hiring in the {sport}' numbers, should that really be a problem?

When looking at the playing side of sports, why is there no giant uproar on 'fair' lines of players? Why does no one get upset that 60% of all players in professional sports are not white? Because then they would be considered racists. If you then complain that only 3% of coaches, or 5% of owners (made up numbers) are minority (or black, according to who's complaining) then instead of being racist, you are pointing out racism in others.

As long as the media, and to a larger extent the people themselves, continue to put people into groups; or continue to define themselves as a part of a group, you will get this. In a system of government designed for 'majority-rule' but with safeguards for the minority (in any situation) you would think that we would be able to take people as ... well people.

The next time you hear of someone saying something bad about a group of people (regardless of the group) substitute these words in their sentence. White for color, male for sex, christian for religion and then ask yourself if the SAME sentence is racist. If you are honest with yourself, you'll probably say no. (If you are one of the few people that believe that people are people regardless of anything else, you'll say yes). Then ask yourself if that sentence would make news at all with the new words, or if the media would think it is racist. An honest answer is no.

The saddest state of this country today isn't racism, it isn't class difference and it isn't illegal immigration. The saddest thing today is that over half the people in this country spend most of everyday feeling offended about something that was not said 1) to them or 2) about them.

There are bad things said everyday. There will be bad things said everyday from now on. It's up to the people to start deciding that enough will finally be enough. When we decide to change things by teaching our kids what's right instead of showing them how to get your way by being a victim, then the country and perhaps later, the world, will start looking up.

Indian nurses face racist attack in UK

London, ians:
Nurses from India working in hospitals in northern Liverpool have recently been attacked by racist thugs, leaving them terrified to move out of their flats, according to reports from Liverpool.

Nurses from India working in hospitals in northern Liverpool have recently been attacked by racist thugs, leaving them terrified to move out of their flats, according to reports from Liverpool.

Four blocks of flats in Falconhall Road, Fazakerley, where the nurses recruited by the National Health Service reside, have been attacked. The racist abuse hurled at the nurses is reportedly getting worse.

Minu Subash, a nurse working at the Fazakerley hospital, was quoted as saying: “We are really afraid to go out at night because of young boys roaming around outside. I have stopped them trying to take my car and they tried to smash their way into a flat through the window. “When you say anything to them or chase them away, you get ‘Paki this’ and ‘Paki that’. It is all the time.” (link)
The article never tells who the suspected youths are, no background at all. Usually when the press won't identify 'youths' they are usually muslim (might not be true in this case, but it usually is). I wonder if these women are being targetted more for being from India, or not wearing proper clothing?

Somali Islamists vow to fight on as government holds talks with clans

· Protests in Mogadishu at role of Ethiopian forces
· Reliance on warlords weakens administration

Xan Rice in Nairobi
Saturday December 30, 2006
The Guardian

Somali Islamist leaders vowed yesterday to continue fighting against pro-government forces yesterday even as Ethiopian MiG fighter jets buzzed over Kismayo, their last stronghold.

The Islamists fled from Mogadishu, 260 miles north of Kismayo, on Thursday after being surrounded by Ethiopian troops and fighters loyal to the Somali government. Hassan Dahir Aweys and Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, the top two Islamist leaders, were joined in the southern port city by several thousand militiamen and scores of "technicals" - pick-up trucks with machine guns mounted on the back. (link)

After running as fast as they could from Mogadishu, the Islamists claim they will not leave Somalia and will fight to the end. Of course, they said that before they fled the capital too, so we'll have to see. It's amazing what an army can do to the recruited rabble of terrorists groups when giving the free reign to do the job. If the Islamists fight as hard as they have so far, look for a free Somalia before the month is out.
